Davidson Webber brings home the bacon in butchers turnaround saving over 70 jobs

Davidson Webber LLP has completed the turnaround and restructuring of the business of Fawcetts Quality Butchers Limited. The Fawcetts business which comprised of a factory meat processing and packaging operation based in Birtley, Tyne & Wear and a chain of around 19 butchers and delicatessen retail shop outlets based through the North East, Teeside and North Yorkshire employed over 100 members of staff with an annual turnover of £5 million. Rob Clarke the Managing Director of Fawcetts, purchased the retail arm of the business for an undisclosed sum from administrators in a rescue package that has saved more than 70 jobs.

Davidson Webber LLP advised the Fawcetts management team on the restructuring and acquisition aspects of the deal.

Neil Large corporate partner at Davidson Webber who lead the deal said “this was a complicated turnaround which required round the clock practical and speedy advice during the business's most busiest trading period over Christmas and New Year. In order for the turnaround to work, it was imperative that there was no break in the trading operations, continuity for customers and suppliers was essential. Once the decision was taken to put the business into administration, we had to ensure that the business was still allowed to trade and operate for a short while whilst we negotiated and completed a deal with the administrators as quickly as possible.” “The new Fawcetts Management Team are keen to build and expand the new streamlined Fawcetts business and I am looking forward to working with them on that” he added.
